Shoenvious

For decades, Vans Customs has let you have your say on your shoes. Today, the tradition continues with more ways to create something that’s truly you. Customade Since ‘66 Since 1966, we’ve encouraged people to do their thing. .

I saw something about a “Fendi Made-To-Order service” for their Colibrì heels. Colibrì… cute name, honestly. Birds, shoes, makes sense, I guess. Anyway, the article said you can customize them. Which, like, duh. That’s the whole point of “made-to-order,” right?

But the thing is, is it *really* customizing? Or is it just picking from a pre-approved, Fendi-sanctioned, limited-edition palette of colors and materials? I mean, I’m betting it’s the latter. ‘Cause, let’s be real, Fendi’s not gonna let you slap a glittery unicorn horn on their designer heel, even if *you* think it’s fabulous (which, tbh, it probably is).

I’ve seen other places doing custom shoes. There’s this one called Shoe Zero, and then Converse has “Converse By You” and some place called Level Shoes offers a “Personalisation Hub.” See? Everyone’s doing it. Even Vans, that’s been around forever, has “Vans Customs” where you can design your own shoes, which is kinda cool, I guess. But Fendi? It’s got that *Fendi* price tag, I bet. Like, are you paying for customization, or are you paying for the Fendi name on something *you* supposedly designed?

Okay, so here’s my personal, totally-unsolicited opinion: I think the *idea* of custom Fendi shoes is cool. Like, imagine telling people “Oh, these? Yeah, *I* designed them.” That’s some serious bragging rights right there.

BUT… I also think it’s a bit… extra? You know? Like, is it *really* worth the insane amount of money it’s probably gonna cost? I mean, couldn’t you get, like, a whole new wardrobe for the price of one pair of custom Fendi heels? Probably.

Plus, I kinda get the feeling that “custom” in this case means “slightly tweaked version of what Fendi already thinks is cool.” Which, like, okay, fine. But if I’m gonna design my *own* shoe, I want to go WILD. I want to pick the weirdest colors, the craziest textures, and maybe even bedazzle the heel with, you know, a glittery unicorn horn.

So, yeah. Custom Fendi shoes. Cool idea. Probably overpriced. And probably not *as* custom as you might hope. But hey, if you got the cash and a burning desire for Fendi-branded footwear that’s *slightly* different from everyone else’s… go for it. Just don’t come crying to me when you realize you could have bought a small car instead.
