Dolce & Gabbana : l’ascension d’un

© 2025 MilanStyle.com / Milan Style Ltd.

Founded back in ’85 by Domenico Dolce (that’s August 13th, 1958, for all you trivia buffs, born in Polizzi Generosa, which, like, sounds super Italian, right?) and Stefano Gabbana, they’ve kinda become synonymous with Italian *glamour*. And when I say glamour, I mean *GLAMOUR*. Think Sophia Loren, think Monica Bellucci, think… well, you get the picture. All that unapologetic, sensual, family-focused Italian-ness is kinda their thing, right?

I always kinda felt they were a bit, um, *loud*. Like, a bit too much sometimes. But hey, that’s their signature, I guess. And you gotta respect a brand that knows what it is and sticks to it. They’re all about celebrating, like, the *joie de vivre*, even if it involves leopard print on everything. And let’s be honest, sometimes you just need a little leopard print in your life, y’know?

I read somewhere that Domenico honed his skills under his dad in Palermo (that’s in Sicily, by the way, for those who are geographically challenged) which is kinda cool. Like, a real family business vibe. I wonder if Stefano’s dad was a tailor too? (Okay, I’m just googling that now… nope, can’t find anything. My bad.)

They’re definitely not afraid to be… controversial. Remember that whole thing with the China ad campaign? Oof. Not their finest moment. But, you know, everyone makes mistakes, right? I mean, I’ve definitely said some dumb stuff in my time. (Probably just now, even).

Anyway, you can find their stuff EVERYWHERE. Like, FARFETCH has a gazillion D&G styles apparently. That’s a lot of leopard print. Seriously. And it’s not just clothes. It’s bags, shoes, belts… the whole kit and caboodle.
