I saw this TikTok, right? (Of *course* I saw it on TikTok, where else would I see something this wild?) This Canadian thrifter, Ashlee – goes by @msfili, gotta give her credit where it’s due – she finds a freakin’ Hermes Birkin. A BIRKIN! For, like, ten bucks. $9.99 to be exact. I nearly choked on my coffee.
Now, I’m no expert, okay? But everyone *knows* a real Birkin is, like, a down payment on a house. Or a REALLY nice car. So naturally, everyone’s freaking out. I would be too! I’d probably have a heart attack right there in the aisle next to the dusty ceramic cats.
But here’s the kicker… (because there’s ALWAYS a kicker, isn’t there?) It turns out – wait for it – maybe it wasn’t a real deal. According to something I read, she looked closer and realized it was a fake. I kinda figured. I mean, a REAL Birkin just popping up at Value Village? Come on! But like, who knows? Maybe she could have made some money off it if it was real.
And this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this kinda thing happen. There was something about another woman in Winnipeg finding one too. Maybe Winnipeg is some kinda secret Birkin graveyard? I dunno, just spitballing here.
The whole thing got me thinking… what *are* the odds of finding a legit designer bag at a thrift store? Probably slim to none, right? But you gotta admit, the thought of it is kinda exciting. Like, imagine stumbling across a Chanel jacket or a Gucci belt for a few bucks. It’s the ultimate thrifting jackpot!
I think that even if it was fake, the TikToker said that the leather quality and the stitching was good, and if that’s true, it was still a good deal!
