I saw one online – ShopStyle, I think? – and the price tag was like, *whoa*. We’re talking upwards of seven THOUSAND dollars. SEVEN. Thousand. For a hat. Now, I’m not gonna lie, part of me thinks that’s utterly bonkers. Like, I could buy a decent used *car* for that kinda money. But…but then you see it. You KNOW? You just *know* it’s different.
StockX has ’em, too, but that’s more the whole buy/sell/resell thing. Makes me think more about investments than, y’know, actually wearing it. Plus, is it *really* worth the markup? I dunno. It’s a Chanel hat made of leather. Someone is always going to pay a premium for that.
I’ve been digging around Vestiaire Collective too. Second-hand Chanel hats? Now we’re talking! Maybe I can snag a slightly-loved one for, like, only *slightly* ridiculous money. Although, tbh, the idea of wearing someone else’s *headwear* kinda weirds me out. Even if it’s Chanel. Maybe I’ll have to invest in a really, really good dry cleaner.
And THEN, I saw something about taking care of them on the Chanel website itself. “Taking care, repairing, adjusting.” They’re talking about hats like they’re priceless works of art! I mean, they kinda are, but still. The level of commitment needed to own one of these things is… intense.
Look, I’m not saying I’m gonna drop a month’s salary on a leather hat. But I *am* saying they’re fascinating. It’s the ultimate “I don’t need this, but I WANT it SO BADLY” kinda thing. And the caviar leather… I saw something about that being super durable. So at least if you *did* drop that kind of cash, it would last, right? (Unless a bird poops on it. Then you’re back to needing that special Chanel hat cleaning service).
